Futures are financial contracts which obligate the buyer to purchase an asset or the seller to sell an asset, such as a physical commodity or a financial instrument, at a predetermined date and price in the future. By investing in futures, you are able to either hedge or speculate on the price movement of your asset. Futures and options are similar investment practices with one significant difference. With a futures contract, the holder must fulfull the terms of the contract, however, with an options contract, the holder has the abilty to buy or sell the asset at expiration.
